The Spokane Complex Fires at the beginning of August were devastating. As climate change leads to increasing fire conditions here and around the world, Andrea Brower and I argued we need to look at the real causes of disaster, including how capitalism and colonialism are driving climate destruction. We warned about conspiracy theories, racism, and vigilante violence as false solutions to disaster and urged cooperation, care, and activism aimed at changing root causes.
